Self-Compassion

"Love your neighbor as yourself."

— Matthew 22:39

Lord of compassion,

I can be very compassionate toward others, but hard on myself. I judge myself harshly, criticize myself mercilessly, don't give myself the tenderness I offer others.

Teach me self-compassion. To treat myself with the same kindness I would have for a dear friend. To recognize my efforts, forgive my mistakes, celebrate my successes.

May I be my own ally rather than my worst enemy. Self-love is not selfishness; it is the foundation for loving others.

Amen.

Reflection

How do you talk to yourself internally? With harshness or with compassion? Try to speak to yourself as you would to someone you love.

For all those who lack compassion toward themselves.
